Report: Tottenham dealt blow by £55k-per-week Leicester man, bad news for Pochettino

|

Tottenham have been dealt a major blow by James Maddison, with Graeme Bryce of The Sun revealing that the coveted midfielder could remain at Leicester City this summer. Maddison has reportedly told club chiefs that he’s open to staying at the King Power Stadium despite interest from Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from the East Midlands after an impressive debut season at Leicester, but he looks set to reject the Premier League top-six to stay with the Foxes for another year. After joining City from Norwich last summer, Maddison made 38 appearances in 2018/19, contributing 14 goals.

Tottenham are in the market for a midfielder, with Mousa Dembele leaving the club in January, Eric Dier struggling for fitness during the second-half of last season and Victor Wanyama not being a regular until the last few weeks of the campaign. Maddison, who earns £55k-per-week at Leicester, could be the ideal player for Pochettino if Daniel Levy is willing to pay £60m.

Given the Lilywhites have only £50m to spend this summer, however, Maddison might be out of reach.
