Report: Tottenham ‘close to signing’ Giovani Lo Celso, transfer fee revealed

|

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror), Tottenham are ‘close to signing Giovani Lo Celso for £55m. The 23-year-old will be Spurs’ third acquisition of the summer after Jack Clarke joined from Leeds United and Tanguy Ndombele arrived from Olympique Lyonnais.

Lo Celso is a talented playmaker who will bring energy, goals and creativity to the side and could spark up a formidable partnership with fellow box-to-box midfielder Ndombele. The Argentine international has made 45 appearances in all competitions for Betis, scoring and creating 22 goals.

Last season in La Liga, he contributed 13 goals in 32 outings, creating 27 chances, making 63 successful dribbles (61%), averaging 45 passes-per-game with 83% accuracy and averaging a tackle (52) or interception (17) every 35 minutes. He’ll soon join a Tottenham engine room containing Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama.

Lo Celso won’t come cheap, but he could be worth the money. The 23-year-old should become a regular under Mauricio Pochettino and has all the attributes to shine in Tottenham’s current system – composure in possession to ensure high levels of ball retention and high levels of industry for Spurs’ pressing style when they’re without the ball.
