Report: Tottenham ‘attempting to seal’ £56m deal for another midfielder, not Lo Celso

|

According to Sami Mokbel of the Mail Online, Tottenham are ‘attempting to seal’ a £56m deal for Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old looked destined for a move to Manchester United this summer, but the Red Devils have withdrawn their interest.

Tottenham held talks with Sporting Lisbon officials in Portugal on Thursday and are now leading the race for Fernandes’ signature. Lo Celso is expected to be Spurs’ third signing of the summer after a £55m deal was agreed with Real Betis, and it looks like Fernandes could be the fourth.

The attacking-midfielder joined Sporting from Sampdoria in 2017 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions, scoring (48) and creating (38) 86 goals. In 2017/18, Fernandes contributed 22 goals in 33 Primeira Liga games, and had a hand in 33 goals in as many outings the following season.

He would greatly improve the Tottenham squad, but whether the Londoners would sign him and Lo Celso in the same transfer window remains to be seen. Daniel Levy has been negotiating for weeks to land Lo Celso’s signature, so it’s hard to see him sanctioning £111m to bring in both transfer targets.
