Report: Tottenham agree club-record deal for midfielder

According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham have agreed a £65m deal with Olympique Lyonnais for Tanguy Ndombele. The midfielder will be a club-record signing, surpassing Davinson Sanchez who joined from Ajax for £42m in August 2017.

Spurs failed to replace Mousa Dembele in January and have been on the hunt for a midfielder ever since. Along with Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis, Ndombele has been top of their wishlist, with the 22-year-old having impressed in Ligue 1 last season.

The French international made 34 appearances in the French top-flight, scoring and assisting eight goals, creating 47 chances, making 64 successful dribbles (73%), averaging 58 passes-per-game with 89% accuracy, winning 19 aerial duels (56%), blocking 32 passes/crosses/shots, making 10 clearances and averaging a tackle (66) or interception (30) every 28 minutes.

Spurs have been linked with a host of midfielders this summer, but Ndombele is undoubtedly the best prospect of them all. The Lyon man is combative, can drive with the ball from deep and boasts high levels of creativity. He’s exactly the type of player who could take Tottenham to the next level in 2019/20 – highlighted by his lofty valuation.
