Report: Spurs wizard lands in Italy ahead of long-awaited £17.5m transfer to European giant

Christian Eriksen has touched down in Italy ahead of a move to Inter Milan, with the Danish playmaker set to have his medical with the Serie A giants today.

Sky Sports News report that the 27-year-old Tottenham star has arrived in Milan ahead of his move to Inter, with The Daily Mail reporting that the Italian club will pay just £17.5m for Eriksen with the Spurs creative midfielder having six months remaining on his current contract.

After announcing via The Telegraph his intent to leave the club following last year’s Champions League final, Eriksen’s departure from Tottenham has become a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’, with many supporters and pundits believing that the former Ajax star would leave the club that summer, yet that hasn’t been the case.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Eriksen has played a part in the Tottenham first-team this season under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, with the Danish playmaker playing 28 games in total for Spurs, scoring three and assisting three in all competitions in what is to be his final season for the club.

Whilst Eriksen has been one of Tottenham’s best players in the Premier League era for the club, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that the Dane scored 69 goals and assisted 89 in his six-and-a-half years with the north London club, his departure has been something that supporters have been waiting to happen for some time.

The former Ajax midfielder disrespected the club by admitting his desire to leave in the summer following the club’s biggest game this century, yet with Eriksen quietly putting his head down and continuing to do his best for Tottenham in the preceding six months, supporters might look back at the Dane’s time at Spurs with fond memories as the 27-year-old begins his new chapter at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
