Report: Spurs plot to sell player frustrated with lack of minutes who refuses to sign new deal

Tottenham have plans to ship off Eric Dier if the midfielder refuses to sign a new deal with the club with 18 months remaining on his current contract.

The Daily Mail report that the England international is reluctant to pen a new deal with the north London club unless he is reassured that he will play regular first-team football, something Dier has failed to gain since the arrival of Jose Mourinho as stats from Transfermarkt show.

With Dier yet to start a Premier League game since December, it is unlikely that Mourinho can offer the former Sporting Lisbon man the regular playing time the 26-year-old wants, meaning that the defensive midfielder could find himself on the transfer list for the summer window after six years in north London.

With The Daily Star also reporting that Manchester United are interested in taking Dier off Tottenham’s hands in the summer transfer window, there is a realistic chance that the England international could make a move away from Spurs in the off-season after what has been a disappointing season for the midfielder.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Dier has only managed 651 minutes in the Premier League this season, and with the English midfielder looking likely to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad this year for the 2020 EUROs, being absent from the summer tournament could be the nail in the coffin for the 26-year-old to make the move from Tottenham.

Dier’s fall from grace as one of the top midfielders in the country to a bench-warmer under Mourinho has been a sad sight to see for most Tottenham fans, but, with Man United reportedly keen on a move for the midfielder and Spurs eager to sell, the English international is seemingly on the move come the opening of the summer transfer window.
