Report: Spurs linked with Serie A veteran as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster defensive ranks

|

Spurs are interested in bringing Inter Milan defender Diego Godin to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, according to the Mirror.

Manager Jose Mourinho previously tried to bring the Uruguayan to England while he was the boss of Manchester United but the defender was not interested in moving to Old Trafford. Godin was accused of using the Red Devils to sign a better deal with his club Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay international then went on to move to Milan last summer after nine years in Spain. Despite signing a three-year deal, he could be available again at the end of the season.

According to the Mirror, the 34-year-old is a target for Mourinho and Corriere Dello Sport suggest that Godin is unlikely to see out the remainder of his deal at the San Siro.

With Jan Vertonghen set to leave the club, this leaves a significant defensive hole that will need to be filled to bolster our ranks at the back.

Would you bring Diego Godin to Tottenham?

Yes

No

Godin has been heavily rotated this season under the watchful eye of Inter boss Antonio Conte and has only made 12 league starts this season.

Manchester United are also linked with his services but also have their eye on Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, which could be a boost for us if the Red Devils opted to go down another route. If Tottenham opted to go down this route, we would just be replacing one player with another who could be out of the door in a year, then we would be back to square one.

To me, it appears that we are terrified to invest in youth. Willian and Dejan Lovren are two others that are aged 30 and over.

It makes no sense and another example of a short-term fix with Mourinho. We would be better for going for someone younger and an individual that will get the opportunity to develop their trade under a world-class manager.

This has Levy all over it.Godin will be CHEAP.A great player 4 or 5 years ago,a leader has great presence on the field but he is now past it.BUT HE IS CHEAP and Mourinhio has his hands tied with the money that he will be given.I hope it does not happen.
