Report: Spurs cool interest on ex-trialist as Mourinho looks for ‘bigger and more physical’ name

|

Tottenham have significantly cooled down their interest in Norwich City defender Max Aarons as Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to add a ‘bigger and more physical fullback’ for the senior squad.

According to The Daily Mail, the Spurs boss is keen on adding to his defensive options with Tottenham having one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League this season, yet Mourinho is looking for a more experienced and physical recruit to fill in at right-back rather than the 19-year-old Aarons.

A former Tottenham trialist as revealed in an interview with The Guardian, Aarons has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the past few weeks, yet this update, as well as Canaries manager admitting to The Pink Un that Norwich don’t need to sell a big name this month, has seemingly killed any likelihood of the teenager making the move to north London for the time being.

Should Kyle Walker-Peters leave?

Yes

No

Spurs have been one of the more active Premier League sides in the transfer window this month, with injuries to Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane forcing Tottenham to open their wallets and splash out on winter signings, with Gedson Fernandes already joining the club on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica.

The transfer saga of Christian Eriksen has also been a story that has continued to dominate the back pages, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a deal to bring the Danish playmaker to Inter Milan is growing in confidence from the Italian giants.

Yet it seems like one player who won’t be joining Tottenham anytime soon is Aarons, and although the youngster would make a good fit for the north London club given his homegrown status and impressive first few months in playing Premier League football, Mourinho seems to be taking a different approach as to who can come in at right-back.
