Report: Pochettino ‘plans to clear-out’ 27-year-old Tottenham man, player is ‘on the list’

According to Gary Jacob of The Times, Mauricio Pochettino ‘plans to clear-out’ Christian Eriksen among others in January and has the 27-year-old ‘on the list’ of unwanted players. Eriksen is one of many in the squad that wanted to leave Spurs over the summer, and it appears he may be granted a move when the winter transfer window opens.

Tottenham are enduring a poor start to the season. The Lilywhites are currently ninth in the Premier League table with 11 points from eight games, having lost two of their last three. Pochettino’s men are already out of the EFL Cup, find themselves 13 points off leaders Liverpool and have only one point from two Champions League group games.

Eriksen has underperformed, scoring and creating just two goals in 11 appearances, which may have been down to his desire to leave. The Danish international was public about wanting a move to Real Madrid, but no deal materialised and he was forced to stay in London. His form has been so inconsistent that Pochettino has dropped him on four occasions already.

His contract is up next summer so Tottenham will have to accept a cut-price bid for him in January. Overseas clubs can agree a pre-contract deal to sign Eriksen for free in July 2020 too.
