Report: PL star with ‘special’ bond with Mourinho hints at London stay after his deal expires

Chelsea attacker Willian has seemingly hinted that he would be open to reuniting with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham despite the two parties’ previous issues with each other.

Writing in The Players Tribune, the Brazilian international wrote that Mourinho was the best coach he ever played under when the duo were both at Chelsea in which Willian lifted a Premier League title, and the 31-year-old also revealed his desire to remain in London as his family are settled in the English capital and that the winger wants his children to grow up in the city.

Willian’s current contract with Chelsea is entering its final months, and The Athletic report that talks between the attacker and the west London club have stalled, which has seemingly opened the door for Tottenham to emerge as favourites for the South American.

Would you welcome Willian to Spurs?

Yes

No

The former Anzhi Makhachkala wrote about who he thinks the best coach he has played under is: “People ask me about the best coaches I have had. For sure, Mourinho is one of them. We had a special relationship. He demanded a lot, so there were some conflicts, but that’s normal,” with Willian later adding: “I loved his man-management, how he organised training, how he spoke in meetings. I learned a lot from him. Even after he left Chelsea, he spoke well of me. We are still friends. Sometimes we exchange messages.

Willian also said about where he sees his future, the forward said: “I have played for Chelsea for more than six years now, and I can honestly say that I am very happy here. If you ask my wife if she wants to leave London, she’ll say no. So, London is where I want to stay. This is where I have my family, my church. I want my daughters to grow up here.”

Tottenham might be hesitant to sign Willian after the winger surprisingly joined Chelsea after it looked like a done deal that the Brazilian would join the north London side as reported by The Guardian, yet the stars seem to be aligned for the attacker to join Spurs should Mourinho want to bring his former player to the club in the summer.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk attacker sounds adamant on remaining in the English capital for the next few years with his family settled in the city, but a move to Tottenham could be risky for Willian, who is not exactly in the good books with the club after side-stepping them to join Chelsea last decade.
