Opinion: Mourinho plotting summer overhaul as Spurs boss names quintet of priority signings

|

Jose Mourinho has reportedly been handed €145m (£132.4m) in funds for the summer transfer window, with the Tottenham manager already having a list of five players he is aiming to sign.

According to Bild, the Spurs boss has named Norwich City prospect Jamal Lewis, OGC Nice prodigy Youcef Atal, RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer, Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia and Real Madrid youngster Eder Militao as Tottenham’s key targets for the summer, with Mourinho eager to overhaul the Tottenham squad after a poor start to life with the north London side.

With the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, too, Mourinho could have plenty of work to do in building an entirely new base for the team and constructing a side that could challenge for silverware next season, with the Portuguese manager keen to bring trophies back to Spurs after 12 years with no major honours.

And Mourinho’s list of transfer priorities suggests that the Tottenham manager is keen on improving the club’s defence, with the Spurs boss eyeing three fullbacks in the form of Atal, Lewis and the versatile Militao. The Spurs boss is seemingly after an established defensive midfielder in Kondogbia, as well, who this season played a starring role for Valencia in their Champions League run to the Round of 16, scoring in a 4-1 win against Lille in the Group Stage.

The summer window was always expected to be a major period of change for Tottenham under Mourinho, yet this latest update has seemingly captured the magnitude of what the former Real Madrid manager is attempting to undertake with the north London club, and the off-season could see plenty of new names come through the door at Spurs as well as some major departures through the exit.

Would prefer Grimaldo,(Benfica) Dias,(Benfica) Aarons, (Norwich) Shick,(RB Leipzig) Camaviga (Rennes)

Whoever he gets in, it will still be way too boring to watch, so it doesn’t matter.

Bring in a manager who believes in playing proper football and I will go back to watching them again.
