Report: Michel Vorm transfer update

|

Michael Vorm was released by Tottenham at the end of his contract this summer, but the 35-year-old could be returning to the Premier League to play for Liverpool. As Vorm is currently a free agent, he’s able to move to a top-flight club before September 2 and Liverpool appear to be leading the race for his signature.

Following injury to Alisson and Adrian, the Reds are short on options between the sticks. Liverpool could be forced to play 35-year-old Andy Lonergan or 20-year-old Caoimhin Kelleher as a result. And while goalkeeping coach John Achterberg praised Lonergan, he did also admit that Vorm was on Liverpool’s radar.

Achterberg told NOS: “The signing of Vorm had been discussed. A good third goalie at a top club is not a superfluous luxury.” The Netherlands international certainly has a wealth of experience at the top level, having made 102 appearances in the Premier League and 137 in the Dutch Eredivisie. Vorm made 47 appearances at Tottenham and racked up 17 clean sheets.

He spent most of his five years on the periphery due to Hugo Lloris being first-choice between the sticks, but Vorm was one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League while at Spurs. He’d be a fantastic stop-gap option for Liverpool until Adrian and Alisson return.
