Report: Michel Vorm to leave Tottenham on a free transfer

|

According to David Hytner of the Guardian, Michel Vorm is expected to leave Tottenham on a free transfer this summer with his contract being allowed to run down by Mauricio Pochettino. The 35-year-old was signed as backup to Hugo Lloris in 2014 and unsurprisingly struggled for playing time. Vorm made 47 appearances in all competitions, 28% of which came in the Premier League.

The Dutch international fell further down the pecking order this season after the emergence of Paulo Gazzaniga as Tottenham’s No.2 and made it clear that he planned to leave at the end of the campaign. He made only four appearances in 2018/19, the last of which came against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League (October 24, 2018).

Vorm’s exit could force Pochettino to scour the transfer market for a replacement, but it’s unknown who Tottenham could sign over the summer. Errors creeped into the goalkeeper’s game in the last year, but Vorm has been a good servant for the Londoners. He conceded only one goal-per-game on average and kept 17 clean sheets from 47 games.

At the age of 35, Vorm’s next move may be the last of his career so he’ll surely be desperate for a club that are willing to give him playing time.
