Report: Levy meets with European giants following enquiry for attacker linked with Spurs switch

|

Daniel Levy has reportedly met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez over the possibility of completing a deal to bring Gareth Bale back to Tottenham.

Spanish football journalist Juanfe Sanz reports via The Daily Star that the Spurs chairman has enquired about the availability of the Wales international and former Premier League superstar, who left Tottenham in 2013 for what was then a world-record transfer as reported by BBC Sport.

Despite winning four Champions League titles with Los Blancos, scoring in the finals for two of them, Bale’s time in Spain has been marred with controversy and conflict with the Real hierarchy, with the attacker’s infamous ‘Wales, Golf, Madrid, in that order’ stunt whilst on international duty this season causing uproar in the Spanish media.

Should Jose Mourinho bring Gareth Bale home?

Yes

No

A move back to Tottenham has long been on the cards by both the English and Spanish press, though it is likely that a return to north London could be too expensive for Spurs this month with The Guardian reporting that Jose Mourinho won’t have the funds to go big on new players this January, with loan deals seemingly the priority for the club in this window.

Spurs have already completed the signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica, signing the midfielder on an 18-month loan deal from the Portuguese giants with an option to buy in the summer of 2021, and Tottenham will likely add to their attacking ranks with Harry Kane set to be out of first-team action until April as reported by the club’s official website.

Although a return back home for Bale is the stuff of dreams for Tottenham supporters, it is highly unlikely that a deal will take place this month with Spurs seemingly strapped for cash and Mourinho on the lookout for a pure no. 9 to replace Kane rather than a former club hero.
