Report: ‘Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham’ remain in hunt for European star despite signing contract

|

Tottenham are reportedly still in the hunt for Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes despite the Portuguese midfielder signing a new deal with the club.

Record claim via Sport Witness that ‘Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham’ are still interested in the in-demand midfielder, with Fernandes confirming himself that even though he has signed a new deal with Sporting, he did not promise that he will remain with the club in the foreseeable future.

Will Eriksen Now Sign A New Deal?

Yes

No

The former Sampdoria midfielder has continued his audacious form last season into this one, with the Sporting no. 8 already scoring 11 goals and assisting eight in 18 appearances this campaign as stats from Transfermarkt show.

Fernandes has been linked with Tottenham as well as a plethora of other clubs for the majority of the year, and speaking to the press this week via Sport Witness, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder admitted that his new deal with the Portuguese side doesn’t mean he has ruled out a move away from Sporting.

Fernandes said: “These are things I can’t promise, it’s not me who has the strength to decide this or not. This renewal has nothing to do with a possible departure or staying here, this is never what was at stake. I’m happy, it’s a sign of recognition of my work and it gives me more will and obligation to fight and want to do more, for myself and for the responsibility that the club puts on me.”

With Christian Eriksen likely to leave this season also reported by Sport Witness, Spurs will require an advanced midfielder to replace the Danish playmaker, and Fernandes could be an ideal replacement for the Tottenham midfielder as well as a major coup for the club given the Portuguese attacker’s rapid rise in reputation over the past 12 months.
