Report: Inter Milan ‘keen on’ another Tottenham player

|

According to The Sun, Inter Milan are ‘keen on’ Jan Vertonghen and could make a move for the 32-year-old – Christian Eriksen is also on their radar.

Vertonghen is out of contract at Tottenham next summer and looks unlikely to sign an extension, so Inter could land their man on a free transfer – the Nerazzurri can offer Vertonghen a pre-contract deal in January to sign him on a Bosman in July. A move away could suit all parties.

The Belgian international has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, but he’s only been on the winning side three times. Vertonghen has conceded 18 goals, kept just two clean sheets and been criticised by supporters for poor form.

Should Jan Vertonghen be left out of the starting lineup when fit?

Yes

No

Mauricio Pochettino dropped the central defender for poor effort levels in training at the start of the season while Tottenham reportedly held off talks over a new deal due to his below-par performances. Eric Dier has edged the veteran out of the starting lineup recently too.

After the international break, Spurs travel to face West Ham United on November 23. Vertonghen is no longer guaranteed a starting place, so losing him to Inter wouldn’t be a big deal.
