Report: Former Premier League defender claims “everybody’s future” is at risk at Tottenham

|

Former Premier League defender Alex Bruce believes that every member of the Tottenham squad is at risk of losing their place in the first-team after a poor start to life under Jose Mourinho.

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Hull City centre-back claimed Mourinho will do what he needs to do to improve the squad for next season, even if it means offloading several first-team players to sign the quality the Portuguese manager needs to return Tottenham to their former glory.

Spurs all-but-confirmed another trophyless season this month as the north London club were eliminated from both the FA Cup and Champions League, with Tottenham now only realistically fighting for a spot in the Premier League’s top-four. And Bruce suggests that everyone in the squad is under threat of losing their place in the summer.

'When he scored the goal the game finished for him. After that I needed 11 players for my defensive organisation and I had just 10.'

The former Ipswich Town centre-back said about what Mourinho could do to refresh the squad: “I think everybody’s future is under threat at Spurs, purely because they haven’t hit the heights where they should be. I think that’s pretty evident to everybody and I’m sure that you certainly wouldn’t need to tell Mourinho that. He’ll know exactly where he needs to strengthen.

“We all know what kind of league the Premier League is in terms of the demands it has and when you’re a team like Tottenham, one thing you really need is to be there or thereabout at the top end of the table.”

With Bild reporting this week that Mourinho is eyeing at least five new signings in the summer with a budget of £135m, we could see a great number of players face the axe in the transfer window, as the former Manchester United man aims to stamp his authority on the club and move it on from the days of Mauricio Pochettino to the new image the ex-Real Madrid boss envisions.
