Report: Ex-Spurs star believes ‘quality player’ has to force future loan move to progress career

|

Paul Robinson has voiced his support for Troy Parrott to leave Tottenham next season on loan after the 18-year-old attacker signed a new long-term deal with the club.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham shot-stopper admitted that the Republic of Ireland star will benefit massively with a temporary move from north London next season after struggling to break into the Spurs first-team this campaign despite the long-term injury to Harry Kane.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Parrott has only managed 71 minutes of senior football this season despite seemingly being the ideal candidate to replace Kane in the centre-forward role in Jose Mourinho’s system. And this lack of minutes has led to Robinson believing that the Irish youngster could leave next season on loan.

Will Parrott Make His Mark?

Yes

In Time, Be Patient

The former Tottenham number one said: “He’s only 18. He’s got a cap for Ireland; he’s not even played a full game this year. He’s got 66 minutes of a League Cup and five minutes in the Premier League, so he’s not getting his opportunities at Spurs at the moment, but he’s a quality player. I think in the future, (next season) we’ll possibly see him going out on loan. Mourinho obviously looked to find a number nine in the window and he hasn’t done that, but Son or Moura plays up there in Harry Kane’s absence.”

It might have seemed foolish at the time from Tottenham’s part in the January transfer window not to allow Parrott to leave the club then on loan with some clubs reportedly interested in the teenager, but with a move likely in the summer, Mourinho could be planning to use the youngster in the second half of the season.

Games are coming thick and fast for Tottenham with the club still competing in the FA Cup as well as the Champions League, and although Parrott is yet to feature since December, Mourinho might be tempted to award him more first-team minutes if more players join Kane on the injury table.
