Report: Ex-Mourinho player who is ‘not Maradona’ rejects 2020 move to Tottenham despite contact

Marouane Fellaini has admitted that he is not open to leaving China to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Speaking to Eleven Sports via The Daily Star, the former Manchester United midfielder confessed that despite being an admirer of Mourinho as well as revealing that he believes the Portuguese manager is doing well with the north London club, the former Belgian international is comfortable where he is with Shandong Luneng.

Fellaini Has To Be A No Surely?

He Could Do A Job, We Don't Have To Like Him

Absolutely Not

As per The Daily Star report, Mourinho was a big fan of Fellaini during their time together at Man United, with the former Red Devils boss once saying about the ex-Everton star: “Everybody knows Marouane is not Maradona but everyone knows what Marouane is and what he can give,” yet the 32-year-old midfielder has explicitly said he will not be leaving the Chinese Super League.

Fellaini said about a potential return to the Premier League and reuniting with Mourinho: “Jose is special for me. We text each other; we call each other from time to time. He’s taken over at Spurs and he’s doing well. I wish him all the best, but I am good where I am now.”

The experienced midfielder was linked with a move to Spurs by Belgian paper La Derniere Heure via The Guardian earlier in the month, with the report claiming that Fellaini was viewed by Mourinho as an ideal player to kick-start his ‘Tottenham revelation’ in the January transfer window with the Portuguese manager expected to make signings in the New Year.

Fellaini was a good servant for Mourinho at Man United, but as graphs from Transfermarkt show, Tottenham’s stacked central and defensive midfield would make it difficult for the CSL midfielder to not only break into the Spurs XI but also block a patch into the first-team for the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier and Tanguy Ndombele.
