Report Claims Spurs Are Close To Capturing Macedonian International But Fans Shouldn’t Get Excited Yet

|

It must be a quiet week somewhere in the land of the internet as Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Fenerbahce midfielder Eljif Elmas.

Now, I’m no world football connoisseur so it’s no surprise that he’s a new and unknown name to me, but the 19-year-old midfielder is apparently quite highly rated and he does have ten senior caps to his name for Macedonian after progressing through to their first team after numerous games in the underage setup.

The claim comes from superhaber.tv journalist Levent Umit Erol but it’s speculation at best and gives very little real information that would imply it should be treated as anything more than simple transfer rumour mill fodder.

Having been linked with Leicester City and Cardiff City previously, and some mentions of Serie A side Fiorentina, I can only imagine an agent is working overtime trying to secure a move, especially in light of Fenerbahce almost endless struggles with Financial Fair Play.

There’s talk that a deal could be done for around 20million Euros but I don’t believe that for a second as they only signed him for a reported 180,000Euros at the start of last season, so they can’t expect that kind of uplift for someone who has only scored once this season in 34 games, even if he is impressing.

The best thing this one seems to have going for it is, he does appear to tick manager Mauricio Pochettino’s kind of transfer ‘project’ boxes, but again, not at anywhere near that fee.
