Report: Christian Eriksen transfer update

|

According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Christian Eriksen looks set to stay at Tottenham beyond the transfer window after a lack of offers from Real Madrid. The 27-year-old was public in his desire for a new challenge this summer, but Spurs haven’t received an offer from a suitor that was worth accepting.

Eriksen will be forced to stay as a result, but his future in North London will remain in doubt. The Danish international will be out of contract in 2020 and has so far snubbed all attempts to sign an extension. Tottenham risk losing the forward for nothing next year unless they can cash in on his signature, but no move away has materialised.

Mauricio Pochettino has been honest about the uncertainty over Eriksen’s future, admitting he doesn’t know whether he’ll stay or go before the transfer window shuts. The 27-year-old would be able to sign a pre-contract deal with an overseas club in January, so Tottenham desperately need to hash out his future.

The uncertainty has led to Eriksen being dropped this season too. Pochettino has handed the Dane only one start in all competitions this season, benching him against Aston Villa (August 10) and Newcastle United (August 25). But if he doesn’t get his dream move to Spain, the Spurs boss will be forced to give him a reprieve.
