Report: Bournemouth ‘set their sights’ on signing £65k-per-week Tottenham man

|

According to Alan Scott of The Sun, Bournemouth have ‘set their sights’ on signing Victor Wanyama. The 28-year-old has an uncertain future at Tottenham after struggling for playing time due to injury problems and is said to be available for sale.

Wanyama racked up just 838 minutes of Premier League in 2017/18 and only 509 in 2018/19. The £65k-per-week midfielder spent most of last season on the bench or out of the matchday squad and is likely to find himself low down the pecking order in 2019/20.

Mauricio Pochettino recently signed Tanguy Ndombele, so Wanyama now has the 22-year-old, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Dele Alli for competition. He still has two years remaining on his deal, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sold this summer.

The Sun believe Pochettino wants to raise funds to go towards the signings of Giovani Lo Celso and Bruno Fernandes. Wanyama’s market value is £18m, but Spurs might lower the asking price as he’s been on the periphery in London. Bournemouth could capitalise on the situation, but whether the Kenyan international is keen on a switch to the Cherries remains to be seen.

Wanyama is still a talented player who could get into many top-six clubs around Europe, so he may take some convincing to move to the South Coast.
