Report: Atletico Madrid keen on £65k-per-week Tottenham man to replace 34-year-old

|

According to Mike McGrath of The Sun, Atletico Madrid are interested in Kieran Trippier and could battle Juventus for his signature. The 28-year-old could be on his way out of Tottenham after struggling for form last season, but his next destination is still unknown.

Atleti are on the hunt for a long-term replacement for the 34-year-0ld Juanfran and are considering a move for Trippier or Thomas Meunier from Paris Saint-Germain.  Juventus could lose Joao Cancelo to Manchester City or Bayern Munich this summer and also have eyes of the £25m-rated Tottenham man as a result.

Trippier’s departure could give Mauricio Pochettino a real headache, however, as the Spurs manager doesn’t appear to trust his backup options Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters. Letting the £65k-per-week defender leave would require Totttenham to sign a tried and tested replacement.

The Lilywhite were previously linked with Max Aarons from Norwich City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, but the former looks set to stay at Carrow Road for their Premier League return and the latter recently joined Manchester United.

If Pochettino doesn’t trust Aurier and Walker-Peters to deputise for Trippier, he may need to bring in two more faces this summer.
