Report: Arrival of Mourinho could ruin Spurs’ plans for move on £20m-rated 21 y/o rising star

The sacking of Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly scuppered Tottenham’s plans to launch a bid for Queens Park Rangers star Eberechi Eze.

According to The Sun, Spurs were leading the chase for the Championship star heading into the January transfer window with Pochettino seemingly very interested in the attacking midfielder, but with the Argentine now gone from Tottenham and Jose Mourinho in the hot seat, a move for Eze could well be off.

Is Mourinho The Right Man?

Genius Appointment

Hell No

The 21-year-old midfielder, who QPR value at £20m as per The Sun report, has been one of the Championship’s most impressive youngsters this season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Eze has already managed seven goals and four assists in the English second-tier this campaign.

Eze has been the centre of attention for a handful of Premier League sides heading into the January transfer window, with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham also reportedly interested in the midfielder according to The Sun via The Boot Room.

Although The Guardian reported shortly after Mourinho’s appointment at Tottenham that the Portuguese manager was told he would have no money to spend on new players, the former Manchester United boss will likely be eager to strengthen a Spurs side that, whilst performing well, can do with some reinforcements.

Indeed, Christian Eriksen could also leave the club in January with the Danish playmaker’s future with Tottenham still as unclear as it was in the summer, and if the former Ajax man was to depart Spurs, Eze could well be the man to replace the 27-year-old in the long-term.

The former Millwall academy player has shown this season with QPR that he is ready for the step-up in English football, and at Tottenham where the likes of Dele Alli have flourished after making the jump from the EFL to the Premier League, Spurs might want to review their verdict on Eze.
