Report: ‘Abysmal’ Tottenham maverick set to join Premier League side for £2m loan fee

|

Danny Rose is set to join Newcastle United on loan in the final few days of the January transfer window after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.

Chronicle Live report that Steve Bruce’s side have agreed to a half-season loan move for the 29-year-old England international, with Newcastle paying an initial £2m fee for Rose with the deal not including an option to make the transfer permanent come to the end of the season.

Season-ending injuries to Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems have left Newcastle extremely light on left-backs, causing the northeast Premier League side to frantically look for a replacement for the second half of this season.

Will Rose leave Tottenham next summer?

Yes

No

And Rose fits the bill nicely for the Magpies, with the Tottenham defender stating his desire to run out his contract with Spurs in an interview with The Evening Standard last November after the 29-year-old fullback failed to move on from the north London side in the summer despite being granted permission as reported by The Guardian.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, though, Rose has seen a fair amount of first-team football this season, making 16 appearances in all competitions and playing over 1,200 minutes, yet since the arrival of Mourinho, the former Sunderland loanee has played just five times.

With Roy Keane labelling Rose as ‘abysmal’ following England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic last October via Football London, it is easy to see why the Tottenham defender is keen to start afresh at a new club after a difficult 12 months for the defender, and with Newcastle in need of a left-back, the 29-year-old fullback has been given a golden opportunity to start again with a big Premier League club with a fanbase that will welcome him with open arms.
