Report: £8m-rated Tottenham youngster eyeing January move if playing time doesn’t increase

|

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth is reportedly open to leaving the club in January in an attempt to play more first-team football with the Copa America taking place in Argentina next summer.

According to The Athletic, the 21-year-old centre-back feels he should be playing more and that he would consider leaving Tottenham to play regular football in either the Premier League or on the continent, though it is unknown whether or not Foyth is open to leaving permanently or on loan.

The South American youngster has featured little this season for Tottenham after starting the campaign on the injury table, but Foyth has done well in the game has featured with the north London club this year, more recently this week against Bayern Munich in the Champions League with Football London praising the youngster.

Will Mourinho fix the defence?

Yes

No

Signed from Argentinian side Estudiantes in 2017 for a reported fee of £8m according to The Daily Mail, Foyth has been nothing but a squad player for Tottenham under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that the defender managed just 29 appearances under the ex-Spurs boss across three seasons, playing just over 2,000 minutes in that time.

But with Foyth a regular in the Argentina national team and the Copa America being co-hosted in his home country next summer, it is understandable as to why the youngster is keen to get more first-team minutes under his belt.

The 21-year-old represented Argentina last summer in the 2019 Copa America where he thrived from the right-back position as La Albiceleste finished third in the competition, beating Chile in the third-place play-off match in which Foyth again started as a fullback.

The versatile defender is within his right to demand more play-time with another major international tournament on the horizon, and Foyth will seemingly not get that at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho whose reluctance to turn to youth will no doubt cause problems for the Argentine international.
