Report: £59m-rated ‘powerful’ striker with 67 top-flight goals set for ‘imminent’ Tottenham move

Willian Jose’s move to Tottenham is reportedly ‘imminent’ after the striker withdrew from Real Sociedad’s squad to face Espanyol last night.

According to Spanish media via Transfermarkt, the 6’2” target man is close to joining Spurs after the attacker opted to be left out of yesterday’s Copa del Rey tie, with The Guardian also reporting that Tottenham are in surprise talks with Willian Jose, who has a release clause of £59m.

With Harry Kane ruled out until April at the earliest as confirmed on Tottenham’s official website, the Spurs manager is keen to find a more suitable replacement for the England captain rather than rely on unorthodox strikers such as Lucas Moura or Heung-min Son, with the north London club already being linked with several natural attackers this month.

Should we sign Willian Jose?

Yes

No

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Willian Jose has a fairly good record when it comes to playing top-flight football, with the 28-year-old striker scoring a total of 67 goals across his 11 seasons playing in Serie A in Brazil and La Liga, with the attacker finding the back of the net 10+ times in his previous four campaigns with Sociedad.

With a scout report from ESPN describing Willian Jose as ‘a powerful, mobile centre-forward’, it’s easy to see why Mourinho has shifted his attentions to the former Real Madrid striker, with the Brazilian seemingly ticking all the boxes the Spurs manager wants in his main focal point in the Tottenham attack.

Spurs are in desperate need for a striker this January with Kane set to miss the next three months, and although Willian Jose could be a pricey option for Tottenham, the Brazilian attacker has the qualities Mourinho desires to lead the front line and to fire the north London club’s season back onto the right path.
