Report: 23 y/o Spurs magician out of favour under Mourinho being monitored by European giants

Harry Winks is reportedly being monitored by Premier League clubs Manchester City and Manchester United following a shaky start under Jose Mourinho.

According to The Athletic, the two European giants are keeping an eye on Winks’ situation at Tottenham with the England international finding it to nail down a spot in the Spurs starting XI following the arrival of the Portuguese manager.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Winks has only managed to complete a full 90 minutes under Mourinho on two occasions, with the midfielder often substituted off before the full-time whistle or left out of games entirely, and this has alerted the two Manchester clubs about the possibility of signing the 23-year-old.

Will Tottenham be active in the January window?

Yes! We have to be!

No! Daniel Levy won't spend

With Manchester United seemingly on the lookout for a new central midfielder with Paul Pogba likely to depart the club this year as reported by The Sun, Winks could be a player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turns too to fill this void, yet, whether Tottenham sell is another question entirely.

Although Winks has been in-and-out of the Tottenham starting XI under Mourinho since his appointment in November, the Portuguese boss will likely retain the English central midfielder until the end of the season to fully assess if the youngster is worth keeping around at the club.

There’s no denying that Winks is a talented midfielder with Gareth Southgate highlighting the midfielder’s talents as a player who can connect the defence to the attack as per The Daily Mail, yet it is telling that a player once beloved by Mauricio Pochettino has been so hot-and-cold under Mourinho.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Spurs manager will be keen on offloading Winks someday this year, but the signs are not looking too good for the Tottenham youth academy graduate.
