I’ve seen a couple of comments on Vital Spurs recently where Lucas has been included in a list of players Spurs need to upgrade. Now I’m not sure on what that idea is based. Let’s face it; he’s only just arrived! I can’t believe the idea of him moving on is one shared by many Spurs supporters.

The fact is that he had played very little football for quite some time prior to joining us in the last TW. In the months that he has been at Spurs he has not yet had a consistent run in the starting eleven but, from what I have seen of him, he appears to be just the kind of player that suits the way Spurs play. He has good skills, good pace, can dribble, and is always looking to move the ball forward. In many respects he is much the same as our Sonny boy.

In fact, it seems to me that Dele, Son, Lamela, and Lucas, can all have a similar impact on the field for Spurs. They all like to move the ball forward, they are not afraid to take an opponent on, they are all quick, they are all capable of scoring goals, and they all have boundless energy. They, like every player, are not perfect and can be the source of their own undoing by making a wrong decision …. shoot, dribble or pass. But that’s not a problem, it’s just how football works.

When you throw Kane and Eriksen into the mix it looks a pretty potent attack when Spurs are moving forward.

I am very much looking forward to watching Lucas play this season and expect him to get more and more time on the park as the season progresses. He has impressed me so far and I believe he could become a real star for us over the next few seasons.

So, regarding Lucas Moura …. what does VS think?

  • For me jury is still out, having said that i can’t see any valid reason why he would be leaving unless a ridiculous offer came in for him and i can’t see that happening because he hasn’t done anything to warrant that. Don’t mis interpret my words, jury out. I think his attitude has been great and he seems like a genuinely decent hard working g guy who wants to prove himself but what I’ve seen of him pre season and odd cameos is inconsistency and tends to go missing but the positives is when he is on his game he has shown class. This is a big season for him. If he can get more involved and adjust to the demands of PL and MP we could have a gem, he seems a bit like Son when he arrived, he wasn’t consistent, still isn’t but he stuck with it and is improving all the time, this may be the same for Lucas. This season is big for him and we can evaluate at the end, can’t see him going anywhere, there is no need. To have someone like Lucas on the bench is pretty good.

    • yes looks like he could be a good one at least he knows were the goal is could show for spurs when Son goes on hes cup duties

    • Just more pre season hot air. Anyone who saw him in the meaningless preseason tournaments will know he IS a class player. He CAN go past people with a dink of the shoulder. He is fast. He can score from a free kick. And apart from Son and Dembele and Eriksen we don’t have too many players who can outwit the best defenders and get a shot or cross in. Stop with all the hot gossip and moaning about levy and lack of this and that and be thankful we aren’t Leeds or Villa or Stoke or Sunderland ie huge football clubs who have fallen away through poor judgements and wasteful spending. We are still moving forward and about to move into one of the best stadiums in the world. Let’s have some patience and appreciation of the stability levy has given us. There’s always going to be differing opinions about this player or that player but god forbid we become sour like arsenal and Chelsea fans. Let’s keep the faith please.

  • Why does everyone want to keep selling our players? Why don’t they just go away and leave us in piece. It all seems to many people gave got nothing to do, like you I hear you say.

  • Keith …. I dare say the people who want to sell our players are the same ones who want to buy everyone else’s players.

Loz …. I think the jury will be out until the end of the season for most supporters …. but there is lots of potential there.

  • Moura is surprisingly good in the air too, Still no new signings but the positive from that is those who moan and say they will give up their season ticket will be gone. Leaving a place for supporters.

  • For me, he’s totally unproven in the EPL but has been integrated (rightfully) carefully by Poch last season.

He’s look very sharp in pre-season, and with Son off to the Asian Championships he’s got an ideal opportunity to showcase his abilities. I think he will do this and more – he reminds me a little bit of ‘Azza’ Lennon but perhaps with a little bit more end product!!? COYS!

  • Moira is a good footballer with pace, craft and it appears decent finishing ability. Can somebody tell me how he can become consistent without getting his share of games. He has looked good in pre season, admittedly against reserve teams, but let’s give the guy a go before we judge him. There are several passengers and no hopers we need to offload before we look at him.

  • “I dare say the people who want to sell our players are the same ones who want to buy everyone else’s players”. Funny that!

The reason why I am positive for the new season ahead is simply because of the great players and manager that we (still) have. As opposed to being down about the players we do not have, may yet have and, all the ones that others think we should have. (Mostly fantasy football picks, I think).

The ifs and buts and many variables are a thing to ponder as always. Nothing new there…

As for Lucas? Well, he is one player that we have indeed brought in early, (January) for this season and, I believe he will be a star… Simple…

  • FFS this getting so ridiculous….too many people seem more concerned about who we buy & sell than actually watching and supporting the team!!

We have reached the unfortunate stage where transfer deadline day is now one of the most important dates in the football calendar. Keyboard warriors and know nothings immersed in their little virtual reality football manager game world, constantly moaning about the end of days because we haven`t signed Jack Grealish yet!

    BRING ON THE WEEKEND!!!!

  • Decent enough. Still feel he lacks a few skill sets. As a squad player he is good enough. I do not see him as a first 11 player yet.

  • All the talent in the world it seems, but the concern is that he’s never imposed himself at PSG despite having more than enough opportunities to do so.

Why not? If it’s not talent, why has it gone wrong there? Genuine question.

I think he has all of the tools needed to start ahead of Son and Lamela. but the somewhat inconsistent results at PSG cast some doubts in my mind. Big season ahead, but he should be given every opportunity to show what he’s got. We know what the others bring, and Son will be missing early on. I hope he grabs his chance with both hands and hits the ground running.

  • No matter how often it takes an import until the second season to show what he can do some fans will keep making premature judgements. Probably exactly the same people wanted to sell Son at the end of his first season. Moura himself has said you just don’t get as much time in the premier league as you do abroad and he’s had to learn to do everything quicker. Its the same for anyone coming from abroad.

  • KA….the fans that want us to sell all our players are the whingers who are never happy, plus ditto what Geofspurs and HT said.

Joe….hahahaha! that’s right regards season tickets.

For some fans they judge players far to quickly because they don’t hit the ground running, that’s why Moura’s getting it in the ear now, just note how some judged Bale n Modric a number of seasons ago and we know how that went.

I believe with his 2nd season syndrome, Moura will be like a new signing, who will hit the ground running. COYS

  • Guyver….do not forget the ones who shouted “who is this short a??? git, sell him he is crap”, I remember it well ahla Modric.

Peter…your earlier post hahahaha!, must have missed it, so very true. COYS

  • Where’s me last post gone, am I banned haha.

Guyver…do not forget the ones who used to say “who is this short a??? git, he is crap sell him”, I remember it well ahla Modric. COYS

  • Geofspurs….are you sitting comfortably in your armchair with a big grin on your boatrace, thinking of another “cat amongst pigeons” article, I hope so you are doing very well. COYS
