Real Madrid winger wanted by Spurs to strengthen squad

Daniel Levy absolutely loves a bargain signing for the first team and is always on the look out for players that could be available on the cheap to strengthen the team and are interested in playing for Spurs.

Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vazquez could become the latest player to join the club according to Sport, and if he does, the transfer would be completely free with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The creative Spaniard has played all down the right-hand side for the 13-time Champions League winners this season, but despite being a natural winger, he has been deployed mainly as a right-back this season where he has played 15 times getting three assists.

He has played six times in a more attacking position, scoring twice and assisting once – showing that he has still got competent ability in the final third, but it’s likely he could be also started in that full-back role with it being a problem area for Jose Mourinho.

Vasquez has been with the Spanish giants his entire career except for a season-long loan stint at Espanyol back in the 2014-15 season which was ultimately his breakthrough season as he made 33 appearances in La Liga, scoring three goals.

Since then, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 237 appearances for Madrid, scoring a total of 26 goals with plenty of them proving valuable at the time, but the wide-man has never really been accepted as good enough for the current La Liga champions.

Out of all the players that have been linked with moves to the white side of North London over the last few months, this move seems the most likely with Vasquez’ wages not going to be an issue and no trouble of negotiating a transfer fee required.

If Spurs can move on either Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty, Erik Lamela or Lucas Moura on as well for a good price, the transfer will seem all the more like a bargain and the transfer funds could be used elsewhere in positions like centre-back – where the club have been heavily linked with a number of targets in that position.

This transfer rumour gets our thumbs up – Vasquez has Champions League experience with the most successful club in the world and will bring bags of experience and versatility for a price tag of absolutely nothing – it just seems like a no-brainer.
