Questionable claims that Daniel Levy offered out £80k-per-week Tottenham man for £45m

|

Despite his impressive form during the second half of last season and signing a new deal on August 9, Miguel Rico of Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness) writes that Tottenham were willing to sell Lucas Moura to Barcelona for £45m this summer.

The 27-year-old has only been a Tottenham player for 18 months, having initially joined from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018. His first full season in London could hardly have gone better too, with Moura scoring and creating 17 goals in 49 games.

Moura scored the goal that sent Spurs into the Champions League final and was rewarded for last season’s form with a new deal worth £80k-per-week/£4.16m-a-year less than four weeks ago. So why would Daniel Levy look to sell him?

Mundo Deportivo say Barca were interested in the Brazilian international but were scared off by his £45m asking price. This is the same club that RAC1 (h/t Goal) say were willing to offer £90m and two players to bring Neymar back to the Camp Nou that same summer… It doesn’t add up.

Questionable claims from media outlets is nothing new in the football world, but Mundo Deportivo have set a new bar for ludicrousness.
