Pride – In the name of Spurs!

Martin Jol spoke after our 2-1 win over Manchester City talking of his pride for the squad who, for the second year running, finished fifth.

BMJ told the official site: ‘I’m proud of them all.’

Adding: ‘It means the world to us to finish fifth again. We knew we were in a fine position a couple of weeks ago. Although people were saying we had a slight chance, we had two games in hand and we knew we were on a good run. In fact, the only game we lost in the final spell was against Chelsea when we had to play 32 hours after playing in Seville. We normally got a result after a European match, but not this time.’

‘It wasn’t easy though. We were the only team to play three games in six days this week and that showed in the second half. But we showed a lot of resilience and character and there were a few heroes out there. Of course, I was happy to see Dimitar and Robbie score the goals again, but I’m very proud of them all.’

The summer is certainly going to be fascinating, wonder if there are any other players of Berbatov’s quality we can steal from under the eyes of the ‘bigger’ spenders?! Certainly the newspapers are full of Manchester United being after Berbatov. Well, frankly, who wouldn’t be after him following this seasons great showing? It is a compliment to Spurs and as long as the board stick to their word of not being a selling club, I hope we have far more players being looked at but not sold.

5th this year again, a great achievement following a pretty up and down showing, who’d have thought it during the doom and gloom months where many were calling for Jol’s head? Just shows with more consistency we could start pushing the top four and certainly move away from the teams below us. Who we bring in this summer is crucial. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for next season to start!

Wonder how many of the Jol doubters are still doubting him? Seriously, that isn’t a dig, each to their own, but despite some average performances he has got us once again to fifth along with decent cup runs. Fine, the next stage has got to be silverware, not ‘nearly’ showings, but I can’t remember Spurs heading in the right direction like this for many a long year and I for one am enjoying the ride!

My time has been more limited recently on this site – one that I’m very proud of building from nothing to the active and great community it is now – and I know we are in good hands with the new boys taking the main volume of work – hopefully I can sit back more next season, watch JD and Matt take the site forward and more importantly Martin Jol take the mighty lily whites to the Champions League!
