Match Preview

Preview: Palace vs Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Selhurst Park tomorrow evening to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League, with kick-off at 8 pm BST and the match live on Sky Sports. Spurs will be hoping to arrest a poor run of recent form that has seen them slip out of the top four and concede at least two goals in the past seven consecutive Premier League matches.

When it comes to media or fan rhetoric, Spurs are one of those clubs that never seem to be too far away from a “crisis”, and although I do not like to put myself in the camp of such histrionics, such has been the insipid nature of Spurs’ recent performances that it is easy to see why many people in and around the club feel so negative.

But it has to end, as it’s not doing anyone any favours, and trips to Selhurst Park, even for sides in good form, is never easy. Palace themselves have been up and down all season, failing to record consecutive victories in the league at all, leaving them struggling to gain any sort of momentum so far 16 matches into the campaign.

This bodes well for Spurs, as Palace have just beaten Bournemouth, so at the rate of their current run of form this season, they shouldn’t win…but we all know how these things work in football, don’t we?!

The Eagles will be without the suspended Tyrick Mitchell, as well as injured trio Nathan Ferguson, Sam Johnstone, and James McArthur, but they have been without those three so it makes a minimal difference whether they are involved or not. James Tomkins is back after a suspension of his own, but with Marc Guehi back in the side, he may not be needed at all.

With Spurs missing Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma (read about Spurs’ team news here), it is a toss-up between Pape Sarr and Oliver Skipp to see who partners Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle. Doubts also abound about over Dejan Kulusevski’s availability for tomorrow’s match, and everyone associated with the Lilywhites will be down on bended knee hoping and praying that the Swede is fit, as without him, the chances of anything vaguely resembling a positive result are slimmer than Kate Moss.

Irrespective of the result, performance levels can’t get any worse than what we’ve been seeing the past few matches – can they?
