Preview: Chelsea vs Spurs

|

Spurs face their first “top six” opponent on Sunday in the form of Chelsea, hoping to make it back-to-back wins after beating the Saints last Saturday.

The team news from our end is that Skipp remains sidelined with a hairline fracture in his foot. He is joined on the treatment table by Lenglet, who has an abductor injury. That aside, we welcome Richarlison back into the fold following his retrospective suspension that saw him miss the Southampton game. However, he is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench due to Kulusevski’s scintillating form, with the Swede set to face Chelsea for the first time in our colours.

Chelsea themselves are pretty close to a fully fit squad, with only Mateo Kovacic ruled out with a knee injury, and Marcos Alonso absent whilst tying up a move to Barcelona. Despite that, much has been made of Chelsea’s turmoil since the back end of last season. This unrest has hung around Cobham like a bad smell, and Tuchel already seems to be throwing his toys out of the pram after the Blues have missed out on a host of their primary targets.

This is therefore the first time in a while that we travel to the Bridge as favourites in the eyes of many – although there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, we must still be wary of a very decent side who can cause anyone problems on their day. Let’s hope their day is not this Sunday!

    Blues 1-4 Lilywhites!

It’s hard to believe the current riches we have in the attacking line. Kane, Son, Kooloo, and Richarlison. Wow. We should win the one and give the Blues the blues. I’m really looking forwards to the competition amongst the four, and I’m hoping to see Richarlison play this weekend. COYS. The time is now!

Last season I looked ahead to every game wondering what sort of performance Spurs would produce. This game I’m pretty sure I know what sort of performance we will produce. I have no idea however what sort of performance Chelsea will produce.

  • Geofspurs says:

If we were home we would probably be favourites. Chelsea, being home, are probably favourites. When the top teams play each other the home team is probably the favourite. ‘Probably’ is such a vague word, but this is football.

Therefore a win would be brilliant but a defeat would not be a disaster …. providing we are competitive. There’s such a long way to go on this roller-coaster ride.

We need to take points off our rivals. And our shocking record against them is criminal. Very important game, a defeat would be the same ol same ol

  • TK says:

The points at this time of the season are equal to the points gained and lost at any other time of the season. COYS. Win the points that are on the pitch each time a match is played. Let’s not leave it until the last match of the season to get the points we need. Win now. Gloat later.

It’s a bloody derby for God’s sake. Against the ChelSkum. This is not the time to be complacent. Besides, Conte will eat the players for lunch if they fail on this one.

I’ve never much cared for blue bloods. who do they think they are?

Let’s leave them three points to the poor.

Their only hope is that the cleats on the same boots with our spurs will save the bugs from being crushed. but it won’t save them any of the three points.

HT going for a 1-4 win, jeez wouldn’t that be a statement! really do hope you are correct!

Am going for a 1-2 win!

But lets all be honest a win of any kind, that’ll do lol!

Lets show the old Spursey monicker is thing of the past!

Am really looking forward to this match up this after! COYS

    Today’s lineup?

    Same as last week!

    • 123spurs says:

      No excuses today,
      No silly errors
Hopefully new signing can make tje difference if needed

  • Geofspurs says:

Hi HT …. Well done, you called the team right. It’s a really nice looking bench now, don’t you think?

    • Hot Tottingham says:

      Great looking bench, Geof.

I’m really looking forward to this match. I believe we can outplay Chelsea today and get that rare Stamford Bridge win… And win it well.

      Up the Spurs!

  • TK says:

wow, no changes in the lineup. okay.

Hope to see several substitutions as I really am looking forward to seeing the new blood in our jersey.

I expect us to start a new tradition of winning at Stamford Bridge. This is our era. Their era was booted out of the UK.

I’m still waiting for that creative midfielder so we can take the ball forward through the middle of the pitch and take some pressure off the wings bringing the ball up the pitch.

I’ve just retired from my “day job” so I’m available to replace Conte. Do you agree that this would be a step in the right direction for the club if not for me? lol.

Maybe I’m edging towards being too old. Solidly in the middle of my 70s. They say wisdom comes with aging, but I’m dedicated to showing that this isn’t necessarily the way it is.

1 x 3 today, with one of the goals coming to a new lad substituted onto the pitch at around the 60 minute. richarlison maybe, with fresh fast legs coming onto the pitch when the skum legs are tiring?

  • TK says:

Let’s get a win today for a huge Spurs supporter who can use some goodness today: Salman Rushdie. He’s one of us. Solid Spurs supporter who is in need of a lift today.

  • 123spurs says:

You guessed it another set piece.
We look scared afraid to attack
    Cant put 10 passes together.

  • TK says:

    😱

  • 123spurs says:

    Same ol same ol

  • 123spurs says:

    This formation ain’t working.
We look sloppy all over the park
Sort it out conte before it’s to late

  • TK says:

Conte needs to do some tactical work during this water break. spacing is off.

  • 123spurs says:

    This is an embarrassing effort

  • TK says:

I do not enjoy watching Spurs playing on the back foot.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Feel free to change something Conte. Completely and totally out coached. Of all our inept performances at Stamford Bridge, this is by far the worst.

  • TK says:

What happened to all that work on physical conditioning. Our lads are a full step slow on play after play.
