Potential Eriksen alternative would need to hit the ground running at Spurs – opinion

|

Spurs are in a race with Juventus to sign Nicolò Zaniolo from Roma, according to Football.London via Tuttosport.

It would take a substantial fee to lure the Italian away from the club he joined only last summer,  the kind of money we would only spend if we were to sell a key player – like Christian Eriksen.

The Italian, who broke into the national side this season, is a similar type of player to Eriksen. He has brilliant technique, and his exceptional vision is matched by his passing ability.

One difference is his height, the 19-year-old is 6’2″ and uses his large frame to his advantage. He also possesses good stamina and under the management of Eusebio Di Francesco, has learned the key facets of the pressing game.

It is no surprise that he is wanted by the Italian champions, but there are question marks over his productivity. He scored six goals and made two assists in 38 appearances for Roma, and if we are to build upon this season and are going to replace a player like Eriksen, any signing needs to come in and hit the ground running.

We have spent the last few years building a squad, now is the time to go out and sign the finished article, otherwise we will feel the blow of losing Eriksen.
