Pochettino’s Options Ahead Of Chelsea May Have Increased

|

I think Tottenham Hotspur fans may be slightly reading into this particular piece of news, but it has been claimed that centre-half Jan Vertonghen is now back in training following his spell on the sidelines, and some feel it may mean he’s back in contention for Saturday’s late kickoff against Chelsea.

The 31-year-old has been out of contention for Spurs going back to the clash against Huddersfield Town at the end of September, and if he has returned to the training pitch he’s ahead of schedule based on my thinking and I’m not alone there.

He’s obviously an important player for us, but after that amount of time we’re into the realms of a runout for the Under 23s or a bench spot…the very least a week of training.

I can’t see him featuring in either the starting lineup or on the bench really – especially if manager Mauricio Pochettino can keep some continuity going with Juan Foyth’s early return.

Goal quote him as saying.

“It is very good news, he has been training with the group. We have to wait until tomorrow [Friday] to see whether he can be involved. Jan is such an important player for us. We have a very busy period ahead so it’s important to recover our players.”

The reference to Friday to me feels like not wanting to be drawn on the team selection, so with a heavy schedule how would we benefit by rushing back, as opposed to giving him a few days at least before he comes in as somebody else gets a breather.
