Mauricio Pochettino is planning to watch potential transfer target Wilmar Barrios at this summer’s World Cup, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
The 24-year-old has been included in Colombia’s squad for Russia, where they will face Japan, Poland and Senegal in the group stages.
At club level, Barrios plays in Argentina where he has spent two years with Boca Juniors. He has built a reputation as a no-nonsense midfield enforcer during his spell at the club.
Apparently, Poch is keen to strengthen his options in the middle of the park, and we have apparently already been checking up on the Colombian international.
The player is said to have a £25million price tag and would provide competition for the likes of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama.
Barrios has eight caps for his country and has featured 27 times for Boca in all competitions this season. It will be interesting to see how he copes on the biggest stage during the World Cup Finals next month.
