Player Ratings: Manchester City 4-2 Spurs

|

Deflated, depressed and shellshocked are just some words to describe how Spurs fans will be feeling right now. A game of two halves, Spurs led early on only to be pegged back and eventually beaten by a rampant Manchester City (match report here).

Here’s how players ranked:

Manager rating- 6

Conte’s decision to play Emerson Royal actually paid off with the Brazilian providing one of his performances in a Spurs shirt. He did however leave the attacking changes slightly too late, Son should have been taken off way before Richarlison came on.

Hugo Lloris- 5

Much more assured from Lloris today but yet again a lapse of concentration has let him down. He simply should not be getting beaten at his near post like did for City’s third goal.

Emerson Royal- 7

Tonight was possibly Emerson’s best-ever performance in a Spurs shirt. Calm and confident on the ball as well as being defensively sound. The Brazilian battled well with Jack Grealish all night long.

Cristian Romero- 6

Was booked early on for a pretty soft foul however he didn’t let that affect him. The Argentinian made two outstanding last-ditch challenges on both Grealish and Haaland, to keep Spurs in the game.

Eric Dier – 5

The centre-half’s distribution is normally one of his best traits but you wouldn’t be able to tell that tonight. Wayward pass after wayward pass Dier was really poor on the ball tonight.

Ben Davies- 5

Struggled early on giving a number of cheap fouls away, he seemed to not be able to deal with the movement of Alvarez and Mahrez.

Ivan Perisic- 4

Rough night for the Croatian, the first and third goals were both down to mistakes of his. He really struggled to deal with the quality of Mahrez.

Rodrigo Bentancur- 8

Today you saw the difference the Uruguayan makes. His calmness on the ball makes it much easier for Spurs to progress the ball from deep, something they have struggled with during his absence.

Pierre- Emile Hojbjerg- 6

The Dane ran his absolute socks off tonight but he was left chasing shadows as City got into gear in the second half.

Dejan Kulusevski – 6

Grabbed the opener calmly slotting away after Ederson’s mistake. Barring that he was kept relatively quiet by Nathan Ake.

Heung-Min Son- 4

Don’t know where to start with Sonny, he just isn’t the same player. A total lack of confidence and sharpness from the South Korean. Massive improvements are needed.

Harry Kane- 6

His shot lead to Emerson’s goal just before half time, barring that however, he did not have many sights of goal. Was marshalled well by both Stones and Akanji.

Subs:

Ryan Sessegnon- 5

Yves Bissouma- 5

Richarlison- 5

Clement Lenglet- 2 (absolutely woeful)
