With speculation still rife about the future of Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Toby Alderweireld, plenty of names are on the rumour mill when it comes to potential replacements for our 30-year-old Belgian and we can now add another one to the list, Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.
Now the 24-year-old Dutch international has been very impressive at Dean Court since the versatile player made the permanent switch from Chelsea, and his stock in the game has certainly risen and whilst there are those who feel he’d be a good addition given his age and what he brings to the pitch, plenty of others have baulked at the idea that he could replace Alderweireld.
Myself I’m torn, when I’ve seen him he looks quality and there are still areas of his game that he can show significant improvement on, so for me this is a Mauricio Pochettino type signing, but for a reported £40million price tag, whilst all transfers carry a risk – wouldn’t we be looking to spend that on someone with more experience who’s less of a work in progress? Or as some comments suggested, use the money for Alderweireld’s new deal.
Given the original claim comes from the Sun I’m also inherently sceptical. But in a more ideal world, Ake would come in as back up with an eye to the future on a fee that more reflected that.
Especially as worst case, we lose Toby for £25million.
Not a chance at £40m
