Paul Ince reveals which surprise name ‘might be managing Tottenham’ in the future

|

Paul Ince believes Sol Campbell “might be managing Tottenham” in the future, after the former defender was recently appointed manager of Macclesfield Town. Despite Campbell being a pariah among supporters after his controversial move to Arsenal, Ince believes the ex-England international stands a chance of returning in a coaching capacity.

Campbell was headhunted by the League Two outfit more than a month after Mark Yates left the club, but he’ll have his work cut out at Moss Rose. Town are currently rock bottom in the division with 13 points from 20 games this season, although they’ve won their last two outings. Macclesfield are four points adrift of safety and have played a game more than 22nd-placed Cheltenham and Ince believes he’s on a hiding to nothing.

He said to Sky Sports: “It is going to be a tough job for Sol but you have got to get in somewhere. Hopefully he will do well and then move up the ladder. The most nervous thing is having to inspire a team to get them out of trouble. I would advise him to take someone with him that knows the league. The lads will be buzzing once they see Sol there. He has got a good football brain, who knows in years to come he might be managing Tottenham.”

It’s Campbell’s first managerial appointment. He holds a UEFA Pro Licence that was gained with the Welsh Football Association and has been working with England u21 manager Aidy Bothroyd to help address the lack of Black and Ethic Minority managers in the English game. He’s signed an 18-month deal with the newly-promoted Macclesfield who won the National League last season.
