“Palace Not Playing With A Striker Might Have Helped” – Gaffer’s Man Management Skills Take Praise

|

History will note Juan Foyth’s involvement in both penalties that were conceded against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but with the youngster taking to the pitch once more against Crystal Palace, manager Mauricio Pochettino has come in for plenty of praise.

A number of pundits made reference to the decision and I don’t believe it’s unfair to highlight that had Davinson Sanchez been fit, Poch may well have gone in a direction. Ifs and maybes, but the 20-year-old took to the pitch and put in a commanding performance at the back as we again took a narrow victory and kept a clean sheet, and he also popped up at the other end to score what became the winning goal – his maiden for the club at senior level.

As said there were a number of comments I could have jumped on here, but Danny Gabbidon’s did make me smile.

Whilst I agree Poch deserves praise for the decision, it shouldn’t have been that surprising that he wouldn’t err on the side of caution when it came to Foyth as he was full of praise for the lad at the full-time whistle and I’m yet to see that many comments where Foyth actually took the blame for the penalties with a large number of fans believing he was inadvertently sold down the river and it was basically Hobson’s Choice on whether he risked the tackle or risked conceding anyway.

Undoubtedly a learning curve for Foyth but moments like that can make or break young players, and he showed no signs of being broken so all credit to him – I’m sure everyone has forgiven a little wobble towards the beginning of the match.
