A match that was worth watching. We needed the three points but earned the draw.

This team is headed in the right direction if DL doesn’t commit an egregious foul.

  • TK says:

Pleasure to witness the decline of manure. Couldn’t fertilize a tomato patch these days. Shouldn’t have dropped those points vs that lot.

  • block 108 spurs says:

A result that showed spurs are getting better with conte’s tactical systems, we should have won. Sloppy passing has to be reduced by defenders as quicker thought / positioning and ball movement would have given us 3 or 4 breakaways… However we have a point to our total, and now to Arsenal game decider for 4th place.

    Hi folks,
Very decent result, to those who had totally written us off, just one word, Believe
A very good game, yes, a bit backs to the wall, however I felt tho’ they had a lot of possession, they offered in reality very little.
They should’ve had a player sent off, in Fabinho who had at Lest 4 yellow card offences.
    Their goal was extremely lucky
Where as I feel we managed the game well, I was actually reminded of how Fergie used to play these type of games in Man U’s hey day.
    We’ll done our lads COYS.
    As a foot note
TK could I ask that you refrain from politicking,
You haven’t lived in Northern Ireland,
I however have lived through, all of “the troubles”
I have had friends and family murdered by both sides one of whom we found in a shallow grave hence my previous offence to some of your comments some time ago.
Please my friend keep your comments, to football.
    Regards.
Sorry to the rest of you.

    Lads its TOTTENHAM !!!

  • Arky says:

We weren’t soundly thrashed today as predicted on the previous thread. Who is the mental midget then ? Ooh, I know, the one with a loser’s mentality.

  • Geofspurs says:

Brilliant, we followed our game plan much better than Pool followed theirs. Unlucky not to take all three points.

  • jod says:

its the same old story. if a team comes at us then we can deal with them, no matter how good they are. But if they come to defend we have no idea how to break them down, no matter how poor they are. Until we can figure that one out we aren’t getting any better.

    • Hot Tottingham says:

I get what you are saying jod. But when a team sets up to defend in numbers and does it well. It is difficult for any opposition to break it down.

It’s what Spurs did excellently yesterday. We defended with a very solid and well organised back 5 and on whole, as a team. And even a great team such as Liverpool were then restriced to very few goal efforts that were on target.

    • Geofspurs says:

jod …. You mean, like Liverpool?!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

No need to apologise Niall. As I have no idea why TK should be writing such stuff on a football site and match-day thread.

I wrote to him asking him to keep it to football and Spurs on here after his comment yesterday, but then chose not to post it. As I know that TK is very sensitive himself to any kind of criticism and yet so insensitive to the thoughts of others. And so I thought better than to encourage yet more political opinion from him.

    But, he does need telling…

  • Allan says:

An excellent result and one I will take .
The whole team played well even Emerson dare I say it did well .
The game plan worked and took us a point further away from Man U and I think now guarantees us finishing at least 5th . How critical are we of other teams who have adopted a similar defensive plan against us ?
As I said in a previous thread we are not the team who lost 3 0 to both `man U and Chelsea and Conte must be given great credit for his achievement so far .
4th is still on the cards but often we find that an unexpected positive result is followed by a disappointing one . But let’s keep hoping .
Fortunately we are not distracted by a cup competition and can focus fully on getting the final 9 points and see if and hopefully Arsenal will slip up .

  • jod says:

Hot Tottingham – But Liverpool did score, didn’t they ? We got a draw because we could attack as well as defend. Yet we have lost games against teams who have really just come for a point. Its not acceptable to say its difficult to break them down, top teams have to do that more often than not. If we want to join them we have to be able to do the same.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I agree jod that we do need to do better in such games. But it can be and obviously has been difficult to break down some solidly defensive teams, at times. And for all teams, not just Spurs.

And yes, Liverpool got the draw. But it was a win they so desperately needed. But that proved very tough for them because of our stout defending. And that was for the 2nd time against us this season.

  • jod says:

Hot Tottingham – Again, if all we’d done was defend well we’d have lost 1-0. It obviously isn’t as difficult for the top teams, City, Liverpool, even Chelsea to break these teams down as it is for us. The league table tells us that. Making excuses will never cut it. Nor is it about a lack of quality, we clearly have that. So its about identifying what these teams do better than us and replicating it.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Well maybe we will have to start spending some much larger sums of that money that we haven’t got, to get to the level of those clubs you have mentioned. As our quality is pretty good but so obviously not in the quantity of the likes of Pool and City…

I was actually agreeing with you… I just pointed out that it can sometimes prove tough to break some teams down. Which is a fact, not an excuse.

  • Niall D says:

    Morning folks
    Hi HT,
Thanks for the comment, won’t dwell on that. 🙏😉
As I said, I felt we were classic Fergie United of the 90s, difficult away game, keep our goal area safe, grab a winner.
We did restrict them to very few chances, and their goal, did take a very fortunate deflection.
But common, a point away at Liverpool I’ll take that.
Playing like yesterday, I feel it does bode well for us, tactically and mentally and indeed should build confidence, for next season.
It wasn’t pretty or dominant, it didn’t need to be, it was tactically right.
At no time during that game, did I feel that Liverpool were going to win.
Now all we need is for Leeds to do the business today.
    COYS.

  • wentworth says:

It was a great result last night and apparently the Spurs players were disappointed when going down the tunnel. Emerson defied expectations and did well although he can’t cross the ball for toffee. Sessegnon set up the goal but often looks like a scared rabbit.
The defence was magnificent. Romero and Diet now are a superb partnership.
My only gripes are that our distribution from the back is nerve wracking and Lloris does some ridiculous roll outs when players are marked.
Also, we have dismal subs that are depressing to watch.
Poor Harvey White has been waiting for 6 months for a chance and is now tripping over his beard
Surely he has more to offer than Winks.
Hopefully, our league position will attract a few decent players.
We have the defence and front men. Just need the creative midfield and wing backs who can attack and cross the ball.

  • jod says:

Hot Tottingham – Spending more money is just another excuse. Most of the teams we have dropped points to have nowhere near the quality we do. So we should be beating them with what we have. If you pretend its because we haven’t spent enough money then is just another cop out, another excuse for under performing. United didn’t lose 4-0 to Brighton because they hadn’t spent enough money.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    I was joking!

Like I have said twice already on here, I agree with you!

  • Niall D says:

    WW 100%
Mind you who’s this guy “Diet” as I need to go one one 🤔
But certainly we do need to strengthen in the right places.
Those you mentioned and indeed the bench.
Even to freshen the team, but certainly to strengthen and to allow for a change of tactics.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – have you ever heard of the term Barrack Room Lawyer.

    • wentworth says:

Niall….wish I had the answer re: Diet. Very impressed with our back 3 though. Romero is a super footballer and Davies has fitted in brilliantly. Dier has been immense too.
Can’t wait for the summer TW.
If we get 4th, we could attract some decent talent.
