Opinion: Tottenham won’t sign £75m man in January despite his uncertain future

|

According to the Daily Star, Bournemouth won’t accept anything less than £75m for Callum Wilson in January and Liam Rosenior said on Sky Sports’ The Debate that Tottenham would be a good fit for the England centre-forward.

Wilson has been in fine form this season, scoring and creating 14 goals in 20 Premier League games and finds himself linked with a host of clubs as a result. The 26-year-old could be open to a move to a bigger club to ensure he stays in the England setup, but his asking price might put off a lot of suitors.

Bournemouth are believed to be requesting around £75m for a player who hasn’t ever hit double figures for Premier League goals in a season. Wilson has 53 goals in 138 games for the Cherries since joining Coventry City in 2014 and is currently enjoying his best top-flight return.

After scoring 21 League One goals in 2013/14 with Coventry and 20 Championship goals in 2014/15 with Bournemouth, Wilson went on to register totals of five, six, eight and nine in the top-flight. He’s struggled with injuries in the past but is making up for lost time now he’s fit.

It’s hard to see Tottenham meeting his asking price to bring him to London, however. English players come at a premium and £75m might be better spent elsewhere than on Wilson – even if Spurs do need a prolific centre-forward following Harry Kane’s injury.
