Opinion: Tottenham simply have to snap up bargain midfielder in January window

|

Tottenham fans will be looking forward to the January and summer transfer windows now that they’ve got Jose Mourinho in, as the Lilywhites will certainly be ones to watch during the silly season. However, one man who should definitely be getting signed is a £27m midfield bargain.

The man in question isn’t a player like Paulo Dybala or Bruno Fernandes, who the fans seem desperate to bring in, but instead, it’s someone who is already plying his trade in north London in the form of Giovani Lo Celso, as the Argentine is only on loan at Tottenham from Real Betis.

The midfielder left PSG for Real Betis, spending last season on loan in Spain before signing permanently and then leaving immediately for Tottenham, and now Beis vice-Chairman Jose Catalan has revealed that Spurs have got a number of options when it comes to Lo Celso.

Speaking to ABC de Sevilla (via Football.London), Catalan claimed that Tottenham have the option to bring Lo Celso in on a permanent deal in January for 32m euros (£27.3m) in January, whilst if they don’t take up that option then they’ll have to pay 40m euros in June should they make it into the Champions League.

If the Lilywhites don’t make it into UEFA’s premier competition for the 2020/21 season then the deal for Lo Celso is an optional one for Tottenham as opposed to being an obligatory one, although bringing in the Argentine for just £27m would be an absolute bargain.

Will Levy sign Lo Celso permanently in January?

Yes

No

Last season saw the midfielder averaging 2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 2 dribbles per game in La Liga (WhoScored), and if he can translate that across to the Premier League then he will certainly prove to be worth the cash that will be paid for him, and will certainly win the fans over fast.
