Opinion: Tottenham should sign £70k-per-week Liverpool man to replace 28-year-old

With Kieran Trippier nearing a move to Atletico Madrid, Tottenham need a replacement right-back for the 28-year-old. A player with vast Premier League experience who has played at the top-level would be ideal for the right price so Nathaniel Clyne might be an attractive proposition for Mauricio Pochettino.

The £70k-per-week Liverpool defender could be on his way out of the club after falling behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the pecking order – Clyne has struggled with a serious back injury which has decimated his playing time at Anfield. The 28-year-old has made only 10 appearances for the Reds since May 2017 and was loaned out to Bournemouth in January 2019 to get first-team football.

Tottenham should capitalise on the situation, as Liverpool may want to cash in on the England international due to his contract expiring in 2020. Clyne has a £15m asking price and would surely jump at the chance to join a side chasing silverware who will be in the Champions League next season.

Clyne was once a regular for Liverpool and England, boasting 103 appearances in all competitions for the Merseysiders and 14 for the national team. He’s impressed for the Reds in pre-season and would be an improvement on Serge Aurier & Kyle Walker-Peters.
