Opinion: Tottenham should not sign 24-year-old due to his indiscipline in Serie A

|

According to Calciomercato, the form of Soualiho Meité has led to Tottenham paying an interest. The Torino midfielder could soon be the subject of a £15m bid from AS Roma, but Spurs would do well to avoid trying to sign the 24-year-old as he has problems with indiscipline.

Meite has made 18 Serie A appearances this season, picking up six yellow cards and one red. The French u20 international has made 31 fouls and only has a 61% tackle success rate – he gets dribbled past 39% of the time by an opponent, so he wouldn’t bring much defensive protection to the Tottenham engine room.

With Mousa Dembele set to sign for Beijing Guoan of the Chinese Super League, Spurs will be linked with a host of midfielders in January and perhaps next summer, but Meite is not good enough. The 24-year-old provides more of an attacking threat than the Belgian, creating 22 chances and making 23 successful dribbles, but he doesn’t appear to be the ideal player for Mauricio Pochettino.

His poor discipline and lack of defensive nous are two of many reasons why Tottenham should avoid Meite and turn their attentions elsewhere.
