Opinion: Tottenham should do all they can to win this tournament

|

The Champions League starts tonight, and Spurs are going to play Olympiakos.

It should be the first game of many this season – as Tottenham look to recreate what they did last season and at least make it to the final.

I think that Mauricio Pochettino and his team should put all of their attention on winning the Champions League and this is because of two reasons.

First of all, their bad start in the Premier League and Liverpool’s relentless start, by contrast, indicates that Spurs are nowhere near being title challengers.

They spoke before the season how they believed they could challenge but, in truth, Spurs have only played well in one game so far and apart from that have looked ordinary.

Yes, it is early into the season, but the signs are pretty ominous for Tottenham in the Premier League Manchester City, and Liverpool are just miles ahead of the rest of the league.

I think that Tottenham will comfortably finish third but winning it? Not a chance this year.

This brings me onto my second point as to why I think Spurs should try to focus all of their attention on the Champions League.

Last year Spurs’ journey to the final was fascinating to watch and involved two of the greatest games of the competition’s history.

Tottenham produced some of their best performances in the Champions League, and their players were really fired up for the competition.

If they can produce similar displays then not only will there be some thrilling games to watch but also, they would stand a strong chance of going far in the tournament once again.

Tottenham played without fear for the whole of last year’s Champions League and if they could do similar this year then do not be surprised to see Spurs challenge again.

Their squad is strong in most areas of the pitch and surely last season’s campaign will motivate Spurs to go one better this year?

The Champions League is incredibly hard to win, but I believe that Tottenham have a better chance of winning it than the Premier League this season.
