Opinion: Tottenham need to bring in new faces to take pressure off of one key man

|

Tottenham fans have not had the transfer window that they thought they would have. Despite a double deal day that saw the Lilywhites sign both Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke on the same day, nothing else has happened as far as any incomings are concerned.

However, with Jack Clarke leaving back for Leeds on loan for the season, it really is just Ndombele who the club have brought in this summer as the club gear up for the 2019/20 season. It’s hardly ideal that this is the case, and Mauricio Pochettino has made that known.

The Argentine claimed after the club’s 1-1 draw to Inter Milan yesterday at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that it will be difficult for Ndombele to settle in and that the fans cannot expect too much from the Frenchman in his debut season.

His full words, that you can read in full on Football.London, were:

‘For him it’s difficult. We cannot expect too much. We need to accept he needs time to adapt to first a new culture, a new country, new habits.’

‘Of course, it’s only him who arrived to the club and that makes it more difficult. When a few are new they can help each other but it’s only him.’

‘We need to give him time but I am happy in the way he is adapting. He is open to improve and learn but needs time to see the best version of him.’

The blatant claim that bringing in more new players makes it easier is one that the fans will jump on, as it’s just another reason for them to bring in yet another signing or two ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Ndombele will almost undoubtedly be a star at the club one way or another, but it’s important to heed Pochettino’s warning and not expect too much too soon from the Frenchman, although if he’s the only new signing it will be hard not to expect a lot.
