Opinion: Tottenham fringe man will be desperate to impress in Audi Cup

|

After seeing one Frenchman endure a hellish time at Tottenham before turning it all around in Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has got a massive opportunity to shine for the Lilywhites in the Audi Cup in Munich. The winger has hardly made a dent at Spurs so far but that could change so easily if he gets his chance after being included the club’s squad.

The turning point for N’Koudou could so easily have been Fulham away, when the Frenchman came off the bench for an injury-ravaged Tottenham side and delivered a moment of magic in his four minutes of Premier League action, whipping a peach of a ball onto the head of Harry Winks to give the Lilywhites a precious 2-1 away win.

Now, though, with that Craven Cottage cross not enough to force him into Poch’s plans, it looks like he’ll be given another chance in the Audi Cup against Real Madrid and either Bayern Munich or Fenerbahce. He’s been included in the squad after failing to find a new club and the 24-year-old will have to be at his best at the Allianz Arena.

Last season saw the wide-man spend the second half of the campaign out on loan at Monaco, although he hardly shone whilst playing for the French side as, yet again, he wasn’t given the opportunities. In his half a season at the Ligue 1 club, N’Koudou featured just three times for a grand total of 20 minutes, hardly better than his time at Spurs.

Last year during pre-season the winger bagged twice as Tottenham won the International Champions Cup. However, his goals against Barcelona and AC Milan weren’t enough for Pochettino to give him a chance. The Frenchman will just be desperate for history to avoid repeating itself this time around and will hope that should he play, and maybe even score, that his manager will make a note of his performance.
