Opinion: Tottenham fans may have been given transfer boost by tour squad

|

Tottenham have recently released their squad for their tour of Singapore and Shanghai, and the fans may be able to take some good news from the included players. Wantaway midfielder Christian Eriksen has been included, despite fears that the Dane would be on his way out of the club this summer.

The Lilywhites are running out of time to replace the midfielder should he leave, though. The transfer window ends on August 9th, the day that the Premier League kicks off at Anfield as Norwich travel to face Liverpool.

That gives Spurs a window of around three weeks to get in a replacement for the Dane should he leave, however, as Eriksen travels with Mauricio Pochettino and the rest of the squad to take on the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid, an exit doesn’t look so imminent.

Whilst Eriksen is traveling, Vincent Janssen, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Danny Rose have been left out of the squad as the Lilywhites have claimed in a statement that they’ve been ‘granted additional time off in order to explore prospective opportunities with other clubs’.

The rumours have been rife surrounding Eriksen, but surely as one trio of players are looking for moves whilst the Dane is set to feature in pre-season can only be a good thing for his future? It raises the questions of how far away a potential exit is for the 27-year-old, despite all of the rumours.

Football.London recently ran with a story detailing Eriksen’s situation, including links to Alfredo Pedulla, Marca and The Mirror that detail of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Manchester United’s respective interests in the player, The Mirror even report that the Dane was so sure of a potential move to Real Madrid that he packed up his North London home.

However, despite all of the interest and the media speculation, Eriksen is with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son making his way across the world to Asia, where he’ll be expected to train and play as usual.

Tottenham’s final friendly match of pre-season comes against Inter Milan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 4th, and should the Dane still be a Spurs player and feature in that clash then it’s hard to imagine he’ll be allowed to leave, even though the windows in Spain, Germany and France don’t slam shut until the end of August.

Pochettino wouldn’t let Eriksen go without a contingency plan, but you could forgive a few Spurs fans for thinking he may not need one now, seeing as there are those who have been left in London to negotiate a mobe away whilst the Dane travels with the rest of his Spurs teammates.
